Middleham One-Place Study

Registered with the Register of One-Place Studies

This local history study is about the people who lived in Middleham in the past. It is NOT about Richard III, there are plenty of other resources which cover his life. This is about the ordinary folk of Middleham who lived and worked as tradesmen, farmer, miners and quarrymen, and of course the jockeys and race horse trainers in the stables around the town and Middleham Moor. The Castle dominates the town, and there is a beautiful Church, which was once a Peculiar, which meant it was ruled by Dean and outside the jurisdiction of a Bishop. There was once a thriving market which served the neighbouring countryside, and it was on route for stage coaches. If you have ancestors from Middleham I am very happy to help you as I have a vast amount of information about the local families, far more than can be put on a web site.

I have done house histories of many properties using the North Riding of Yorkshire Register of Deeds.

I am very happy to help anyone with Family History connections in Middleham and surrounding area of the dales.

Plans include indexing people in property deeds and matching them with owners and occupiers of Middleham houses.
